The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
