The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
