The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Shooting
No fewer than 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, saying they were standing when the shooting started. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she said.
The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
In a statement, a senior official said that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

An Israeli citizen was a fatality in the incident, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with five in a critical state. The injured include two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
