Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
