Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
