A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,â Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
âIf we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â Levine Cava continued. âI hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.â
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting âsix-sevenâ â inspired by a musical verse â often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the ceremony's official statement.
âThis swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,â said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt represents the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.â
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
